Mas que maravilha! As criancas do i2i foram convidadas para celebrar a Páscoa na Escola Americana. Foi uma oportunidade inesquecível para as nossas crianças.
Como não podia deixar de ser, as crianças adoraram o fato de irem mais uma vez à Escola Americana e imagina quando souberam que haveria distribuição de ovos de Páscoa e muitas atividades divertidas para as crianças.
As crianças realizaram atividades como Caça ao Tesouro, várias brincadeiras educativas ondes as crianças tinham que usar o seu vocabulá de Inglês. As crianças das Aulas de Break-Dance realizaram a apresentação de alguns passos para o pessoal da Escola Americana.
No final, para alegria geral da crianças houve a distribuição de ovos de Páscoa. Não preciso nem dizer se gostarem ou não, né?

Férias!
Férias No I2I!!
Beleza? Bem, faz bastante tempo que não é postado nada aqui no Blog, mas vamos acabar logo com essa moleza, né?
No fim de Dezembro e também durante todo o período de Janeiro o I2I entrou em férias! Férias?! Que nada! Aqui ninguém descansa e quem pensa que continuamos numa sala de aula ensinando idiomas está muito enganado.
Esse suposto período de férias foi de muito trabalho para o pessoal do i2i. Quem realmente gostou disso foram as crianças.
Com a ajuda de Andrew (Nova Zelândia) e de Eve (Austrália) o Instituto levou as crianças para atividades ao ar livre. Isso mesmo, Já dá pra imaginar a bagunça que foi, né?
Por duas vezes fomos a praia de São Conrado, ao lado da Rocinha. Lá jogamos Vôlei, Críquete, Frescobol e até tentamos jogar um pouco de Rúbgi - por mais incrível que pareça, deu certo. As criancas adoraram. Também com uma australiana e um neo-zelandês (kiwi, como eles preferem) não tinha como não gostar do esporte.
Depois nós conseguimos levar as crianças para o Bosque da Barra, à uns 15 minutos da Rocinha. As crianças, como sempre adoraram. Foi muito divertido poder sair com as crianças com bastante espaço para elas poderem correr e bagunçarem à vontade.
Tivemos um piquenique, realizamos atividades, corrida com ovo na colher, pescaria (devolvemos os peixes). As crianças também se divertiram num parquinho e realizaram a Corrida do Elástico.
Resumindo, foi MARAVILHOSO!

Atualizacoes
Depois de muito tempo sem escrever um linha decidi dar uma atualizada. Quero começar pela nossa festa de Halloween. Este ano foi surpreende a participação dos alunos na organização da festa. Tivemos duas semanas para preparar tudo, incluindo a decoração, a mesa de comidas, o som e as fantasias. Apareceram na festa muitos super heróis, bruxas, palhaços e claro nossos voluntários que animaram mais ainda essa noite.
Para o ano de 2008 já conversamos com todos os alunos e vamos tentar fazer com que os nossos voluntários sejam os animadores com stand em todos os três andares do i2i com diferentes atividades, tais como... pintura de rostos, tatuagens, pescaria e todos os trick or treats do Halloween.

I have just got back from 3 months' volunteering for i2i in Rocinha and can honestly say it was a life changing experience. Everything about Rocinha is intense: the sights, the sounds, the smells, but you'd be hard pressed to find a volunteer who hasn't in some capacity fallen in love with the place. I know I did. From the beautiful views at the 'visual' to the Sunday morning markets on Lago da Boadeira – it truly is breathtaking.
I had the opportunity to work with hard-working, fun and open-minded volunteers from all over the world – which made spare time and the work at i2i so much more enjoyable. Besides the volunteers, there is a great team of Brazilians at i2i who became some of my closest friends during the experience. One of the great things about the i2i organization is that because they are in a critical growth stage, as a volunteer I felt empowered as I could come up with ideas and see them through to fruition. One of these initiatives included a month long intensive English course for adults which another volunteer from Australia and I started over the summer holiday period. It was really rewarding seeing these individuals' passion for learning, and hearing stories of how they were able to apply the skills they learnt in the workplace. We also developed a summer sports program for the children that were already a part of the i2i community. This month long program included a field trip to a beautiful park on the other side of Rio where we were able to treat the children to a picnic with face-painting, three-legged racing and even some improvised fishing in the lake!
If anyone reading this is considering volunteering for i2i my advice would be: go for it, but go prepared. Go with the expectation that as a young organisation, they might not always have work to hand to you on a platter, or a pre-prepared slot for you to fill ; but they will try to use your talents where they can and will always be completely open in supporting any ideas and intitatives you might have to benefit this great community. Volunteers! Please, read this!
Welcome, volunteers!
First, let me say on behalf of the Two Brothers Foundation that I am very grateful for your interest in our organization. I encourage you to follow through with this opportunity to join us in our exciting and unique mission. This information sheet is intended to answer some basic questions and to give you an overview of the volunteer experience.
Since the first activities of the Two Brothers Foundation (2bros), and its sister organization, the Instituto Dois Irmãos (I2I), in 1998, many volunteers from around the world have assisted us in our mission to promote education, community service, and international exchange in the favela of Rocinha, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Most of those volunteers have helped us in teaching languages - mostly English, but also French and Spanish - to children, adolescents, and adults. Others have worked with art classes, reading groups, photography and film projects, or computer skills classes. Most volunteers have been involved in short-term cultural activities as well, such as taking groups of children on field trips to the Centro Cultural do Banco do Brasil and the American School of Rio de Janeiro. Many have also helped plan and hold events in Rocinha, such as our annual Halloween party and other parties and celebrations.
Volunteers have also helped us with the actual construction and refurbishing of our new building, and with the implementation of our new community reading room. With our new building almost complete, there is a more intense level of activity than ever, making now one of the most exciting times ever to volunteer with the Two Brothers Foundation. Furthermore, our relatively small size and somewhat informal nature make it possible for volunteers to be directly involved in the growth of our organization and in the direction we choose to follow in the future.
The experience of volunteering at Two Brothers is a very unique and special one and I strongly encourage anyone interested in so doing to follow up on it!

Escola Americana
Passeio à Escola Americana
- Gostei muito, vou falar pra minha mãe pra eu estudar aqui – disse Vanessa numa prova de que realmente gostou do passeio e comovendo a todos.
A volta foi uma bagunça total. As crianças vieram bagunçando na van desde a Gávea até a volta ao nosso prédio.

Nossa Missão
A missão do Instituto 2 Irmãos é prover oportunidades educacionais em comunidades como a Rocinha através de serviço comunitário local e internacional e intercâmbio cultural
No início de 1998, membros da comunidade e visitantes estrangeiros trabalharam juntos para organizarem um curso de inglês na Escola Moranguinhos. No ano seguinte a Two Brothers foi fundada nos Estados Unidos como uma organização sem fins lucrativos, e no ano 2000, o Instituto 2 Irmãos foi criado no Rio de Janeiro. Duas organizações irmãs.
Através dos anos a Two Brothers Foundation tem oferecido uma variedade de projetos educacionais e culturais na Rocinha, incluindo aulas de inglês, francês e espanhol, além de aulas de arte, computação e grupos de leituras infantis. Também tem oferecido festas comunitárias e uma festa anual de Halloween. Um dos aspectos mais fortes da Two Brothers na Rocinha tem sido o intercâmbio cultural que ocorre devido ao constante contato entre voluntário estrangeiros e moradores.
Muitos de nossos esforços de arrecadação de fundos e muitas de nossas atividades culturais nos Estados Unidos são executados por organizações estudantis afiliadas a Two Brothers e sediadas em várias instituições educacionais, tal como a Two Brothers Foundation - Club Brazil na Universidade de Oklahoma, A Georgia State e a Elon University. Além do mais, estudantes na Universidade da Carolina do Norte, Chapel Hill ajudaram-nos. Nós alegremente o apoiaremos em começar uma nova afiliação da sua instituição.
